Reif Estate Winery Semillon 2018

Reif Estate’s half acre block of Semillon vines were planted in 2005 and are maturing nicely on the farm. This variety is only grown in a handful of vineyards throughout Niagara region.  At Reif, this grape variety continues to impress as the vines age.

This white wine has intense aromas of orchard fruit (think peach, pear, apple, apricot) with notes of honey. A medium bodied wine that is complex and layered with an elegant finish.

This would be absolutely delicious with creamy cheeses like Camembert, Brie or a semi-soft cheese like Havarti.

Notes about the winery: Reif Estate Winery’s vineyard is planted in Ontario’s warmest sub-appellation which is ideal to produce rich full-bodied wines. Their farm is also home to some of the oldest vinifera plantings in Canada—a benefit to growers in cooler climates like Ontario, as mature vines ripen earlier. They also produce wines that reflect the ‘terroir’, so when you taste Reif Estate Winery wines, you will taste the essence of their vineyard.

More about this wine: A cool wet summer in 2018 originally gave some concerns about the vintage but patience was rewarded with a hot dry harvest season that allowed grapes to ripen fully. After harvest and fermentation the Semillon wine was aged in older French oak barrels for 18 months before bottled to age further at the winery.
