Winemakers Notes:
Growing conditions in the spring of 2019 were quite slow with cooler weather and lots of moisture delaying budbreak and slowing early spring growth. June turned out to be warmer than on record which helped the vines growth. In fact we had some quite hot spells throughout the month giving great flowering conditions. The rest of the summer was mainly sunny and warm with just enough moisture for steady development of the vines. Ideal conditions for grapegrowing. September was cooler, yet mainly sunny giving a great beginning to the harvest season.
Derek reports that the 2019 harvest was especially good for Riesling grapes with cooler temperatures allowing for slow ripening resulting in amazing flavours and keeping the acid balanced without high sugar development.
