Meldville Wines, owner and winemaker Derek Barnett, loves making Pinot Noir! The 2024 vintage offered ideal growing conditions: a warm, balanced season that produced fruit with concentration and finesse.
The grapes were grown on a small Niagara-on-the-Lake vineyard where canopy management and leaf thinning ensured healthy, evenly ripened clusters. After hand-harvesting, the fruit was crushed, destemmed, and fermented in small bins with manual punch-downs to extract gentle tannins and colour.
Once fermentation finished, the wine was pressed and aged in neutral French oak barrels for subtle texture and complexity. Minimal filtration preserved its purity and delicate aromatics.
The Pinot Noir 2024 is a true reflection of the region’s terroir—vibrant fruit, silky texture, and a touch of spice that lingers. A perfect example of how thoughtful winemaking can turn a delicate grape into a confident, polished wine.
