The family’s story goes that Joseph DiProfio was getting ready to retire in Northern Ontario when his son Fred discovered a number of impressive wineries in Niagara. “Fred encouraged me to sell my boat and move to Niagara – he even picked out a house for us to live in Jordan. Wouldn’t you know it…there was a small vineyard as part of the property”, recalls Joseph. “Then pretty soon after settling in, we got bitten by the wine bug too. We (the royal we!) transformed the neglected vineyard into one that Fred could make decent wines with under the brand of DiProfio Wines.” And if that was not enough for the retired couple, they transformed their new house into a B&B.
Fred was naturally the winemaker at DiProfio Wines while juggling his day-job as head winemaker at Pondview Estates Winery and Bella Terra Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
We were over the moon when Fred contacted Debbie this spring to ask if we could help him launch his new project – Fred Wines. What as once conversation with his parents became reality…and Margarita, Fred’s wife, enthusiastically participated in our Clink & Drink Pink event this past June with only 2 days notice! Just in October, we introduced Fred Wines to all of our Savvy Wicked Wines club subscribers.
