Fogolar Wines, led by winemaker Marc Pistor, is known for crafting focused, terroir-driven wines that highlight Niagara’s unique sub-appellations. The Picone Vineyard on the Beamsville Bench has a reputation for producing Cabernet Franc with structure, concentration, and age-worthy potential.
The 2023 vintage was handled with meticulous care. Fruit was hand harvested and destemmed into stainless steel, with 15% whole cluster included for added complexity. Roughly 10% of the juice was bled off to intensify the remaining must. Fermentation lasted 28 days on skins, followed by aging in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barrels. The result is a wine that marries power with elegance, showing both vineyard character and thoughtful craftsmanship.
This single-vineyard Cabernet Franc demonstrates why Niagara continues to earn recognition for its cool-climate reds. It’s a bottle that captures both the precision of Fogolar’s winemaking and the distinct expression of the Picone site.
