Have you heard that there is a newly released book featuring the backstory of inventions created in Ottawa?
Just released, Ottawa Made, is a book that is both fun and informative. It’s sure to delight anyone who calls Ottawa home, as authors Sam Laprade and Caroline Phillips do. They met dozens of Ottawa innovators and their families to chronicle the stories of how their inventions came to life.
This will be a special event where you’ll connect with the authors while you listen to them read from their book, share stories how they discovered the Ottawa born inventions….and they will be signing your copy of Ottawa Made too!
Sam and Caroline are entertaining and engaging media personalities who are proud of their involvement in the Ottawa community.
Did you know…
…instant mashed potatoes, walkie talkies, McIntosh apple and the electric oven are all invented in Ottawa?
…there are several Ottawa-born artists including a singer with the 13th top-selling album of all time, a lead actor in a 1960s television show that still holds viewership records, plus a songwriter who penned a song that hit the charts three different times for three different artists….
….and that is just the beginning of the long & impressive list!

At this special book signing event, our Sommeliers will serve you a glass of Canadian wine or craft cider paired with a cheese plate of assorted Ontario and Quebec artisan cheeses to enjoy. Non-alcoholic locally made sodas are available too.
This evening continues our celebration of Canadian made products. Now more than ever is a time to show our pride. We can’t wait to shine the spotlight on innovative Canadians along with these new authors and their innovative Ottawa Made book!

Sam Laprade (on left) is an award-winning broadcaster, host of ‘An Hour to Give’ that airs on Country 101.1 & Rogers tv Ottawa. She loves public speaking Emcee or performing stand-up comedy at community fundraisers. A super proud Mom, entrepreneur, fundraising professional and now accomplished author!
Caroline Phillips (on right) is a reporter with 30 years’ experience in writing about people who are actively involved in Ottawa. She is always easy to pick out at notable fundraising events being the only one with a camera around her neck and jotting down guest names in her trusty notepad. A proud Mom of 5, owner of Caroline in the City and now a book author.
