Our Cheese Sommelier Vanessa Simmons spends countless hours with regional cheese mongers & cheesemakers waving the Canadian cheese flag, many now profiled in Savvy Cool Curds artisan cheese-of-the-month club.
Vanessa has studied with Cheese Education Guild, Toronto, and Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute, Ottawa. She has worked as a chef and her tasting seminars & speaking events throughout Ontario make for a delicious discovery of Canadian artisan cheeses.
The Toronto Star reported that Vanessa is “openly fanatical about artisan cheese”.
She is frequently called on as the cheese expert on CBC Radio & Radio Canada, CTV Morning Live, Rogers TV Daytime, RubyTV and was recently featured in Dairy Farmers of Canada All You Need Is Cheese Magazine. Her articles have been published in Culture Magazine, Edible Ottawa, Grapevine Magazine, Metro News, The Ottawa Citizen.
Vanessa shares her enthusiasm & knowledge of Canadian artisan cheese with consumers as a keynote presenter at The Great Canadian Cheese Festival year over year. She has been an industry judge at the 2013-2015 Selection Caseus – Le Concours de Fromages Fins de Quebec & at the inaugural 2014 Canadian Cheese Awards .
Vanessa is passionate about sharing the stories of the dynamic people involved Canada’s artisan cheese community & believes in the positive energy of artisan cheese.
